The efficient gigabit solution for network expansions and existing networks
Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) networks in Europe still offer considerable potential for technical development. They are capable of delivering gigabit speeds and reliably meeting the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of both residential and business users. As such, HFC infrastructures do not merely serve as a high- performance bridging technology on the path to nationwide fibre-optic connectivity, but also remain a long-term alternative to FTTH fibre-optic connections. Performance boost through DOCSIS 3.1 and DOCSIS 4.0 DOCSIS 3.1 already enables downstream data rates of up to 1 Gbit/s. DOCSIS 4.0 represents the next strategic technological leap in the cable network: significantly increased overall capacities, improved latency and, in the future, near-symmetrical bandwidths, which were previously the preserve of traditional FTTH connections. DOCSIS 4.0 thus lays the foundation for next-generation gigabit business models. With transmission rates of up to 10 Gbit/s for downloads and up to 6 Gbit/s for uploads, network operators can compete with pure fibre-optic networks in terms of performance – without having to implement a full FTTH rollout to every building.
